Mindfulness Workshops

The power of being present in the moment

There are a number of definitions but we like to use Jon Kabat-Zinn’s definition: “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”

By taking a few moments to unpack the various elements such as: What particular way are we paying attention to our experience? (With kind curiosity), and what are we paying attention too?

Different practices use different anchors but essentially we are paying attention to the sensory experience of being alive in this present moment.


Made up of six sessions, the sessions are linked together to make up 3 half day workshops. There is also an option of additional 2 sessions if required.

Session 1 – Introduction to Mindfulness

• Setting ground rules and creating a safe space for the class
• Defining ‘Mindfulness’ and its relationship to kindness and compassion
• Introduction of three mindful practices – Grounding, Mindful Eating and Body Scan
• Participants have a first experience of mindfulness, action and the power of being present in the moment
• Wrap up and homework


Session 2 – Be Right Where You Are

• Developing a formal practice and common barriers
• Mindfulness breathing
• Introducing the techniques “2 feet, 1 breath” and “3P’s: Pause-Present Proceed
• Wrap up and homework


Session 3 – Our Storytelling Minds

• Exploring the bodies reaction to stress – Velcro and Teflon
• We are not our thoughts. Noticing thoughts and reactions
• Mindfulness of Sound, Mindful Walking
• Introduction of STOP technique
• Wrap up and homework


Session 4 – Cultivating Kindness

• Introducing Loving-Kindness practice for self and others
• Introducing the Anchor Phrase or RAIN technique – working with challenging emotions
• Deepening your informal and formal practice
• Wrap up and homework


Session 5 – Willingness to Be with Things as They Are

• Introducing Loving Kindness into walking or movement – deepening the practice
• Exploration of ‘unpleasant , neutral, pleasant’
• introduction to Suffering = Pain x Resistance practice
• Deepening personal practice
• Wrap up and homework


Session 6 – Moving Forward

• Support for developing formal and informal practice
• Deepening Mindfulness of Breathing practice
• Group work around suggestions and support for continued practice
• Introduction to Mindfulness of Breathing with Spaciousness
• Group Closure
